Reporting to Sr. Director of Physician Referral Services, serves as an advocate for growth, network development and access by building a positive rapport with referring physicians in the community, Senior Leadership, Service Line physicians, and other stakeholders. Manages outreach efforts to enhance relationships with community-based providers and their office staff, build volume, increase managed care network participation, and facilitate meetings between Executives, Service Line specialists, and community-based referral sources. Responsible for providing feedback and recommendations as appropriate. Identifies and acts upon growth opportunities for the organization. Escalates system issues through appropriate channels.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Functions as the primary sales and marketing contact for referring physician offices, strengthening physician relationships among UMMMC Executives, Service Line providers/specialists, community-based Service Line specialists, and primary care physicians (PCPs) in central MA. Increases awareness of UMMMC depth, breadth and quality among referral sources throughout the primary and secondary service areas.
  • Identifies, proposes, executes and continually updates a comprehensive strategy for achieving system objectives. Enhances awareness of MCN participation, employment opportunities, specialty and sub-specialty capabilities at UMMMC and at member hospitals.
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Executives, Marketing, Physician Referral Services and Office of Clinical Integration (OCI) to identify key physicians, physician groups and practices within the primary service area of the Medical Center and Member Hospitals. Enhances referral database to include information on referring physicians and facilities.
  • Develops and maintains profiles of offices visited using Salesforce, SharePoint, and other appropriate means. Maintains a central database on referring physician complaints, including system-level issues. Provides summary information on types of complaints and issues to senior management on a routine basis. Escalates referring physician complaints to appropriate departments. Works with senior management to ensure all complaints are appropriately and fully addressed.
  • In conjunction with key Senior Executives, Service Line leadership, OCI, Marketing and Member Hospital leadership, analyzes and reviews referral, inpatient admission, and transfer data to identify physician groups and areas for incremental volume growth. Track outreach activity, design a plan to reduce leakage of referrals, and monitor success of outreach initiative and deliver growth in referrals.

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
Experience/Skills:

Required:
  • At least five years of experience in health care, physician services environment or hospital outreach.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills with minimal direction, including the ability to make effective presentation of material gathered.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize ideas and develop a plan of execution.
  • Valid driver’s license required to travel to off-site locations.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred:
  • Prior sales and marketing experience in the medical field.
